Natural shades are the best for all skin tones and works for all occasions.  You can go for soft pinks, shades in golden and orange, light red and very light brown.  For an evening party at a club, you can play with smoky charcoal colors like: black and silver, darn blue and brown etc.  Do not always match the eyeshadow with the dress that you are wearing and instead go for contrasting colors.
