Oh Ghost Unwelcomed

They say, "August" is a ghost month in the Chinese period wherein the gates of the underworld opens which means ghosts and dead spirits are free to wander everywhere and cause misfortune to the living. This period began last August 10 and will end on September 8.
A LITTLE BIT ABOUT HUNGRY GHOSTS...
Hungry Ghosts are called “hungry” because by their nature they are unable to satisfy their hunger or thirst through eating ordinary food or water. To be fed, they are only able to smell the smoke of incense and the aroma of food – and so naturally they become really happy and appeased when incense or other special food items are burned and offered to them.  These are very desperate ghosts who are trapped in between realms; they are constantly suffering from extreme deprivation - so when left unappeased it’s not surprising that they start to cause mischief to those whose chi energy levels are on the low side - for example, those whose astrological feng shui or house feng shui for the year is afflicted and whose “ji oon” or life force is weak. Hence during this Hungry Ghost Month, more than ever, it is so essential to perform incense offerings - perhaps even every night! -source

It's never too late! You may want to check Feng Shui expert Marites Allen's tips to protect yourself from these ghosts and the misfortunes they bring - Do's and Donts  and Chinese Zodiac Reading. These astrological readings may be really informative and a great help yet we must still put in mind that bad luck still depends on how we believe on it, on how we react and take action from unfavorable outcomes and misfortunes that happens in our daily lives.

Our luck, in the end, is pretty much what we choose it to be.

Yesterday Once More

It's strange indeed how memories can lie dormant in a person's mind for so many years.  Yet those memories can be awakened and brought forth fresh and new, just by something you've seen, or something you've heard, or the sight of an old familiar face.

Looking back those times give us that nostalgic feeling hoping that there would be a chance that we could still go back and rewrite the past into something more different from what had actually happened. Some are lucky to have second chances, but mostly, some are out of luck. Probably because of unknown reasons wrapped within. A change of heart or maybe life's unpredictable complications.

That onslaught of memories are too painful enough to bear. Only time can heal almost everything - hurt, betrayal, regret, loss and sadness. Pain will eventually be less hurting in time and it would make us more stronger at the present time and be at our best self  for the future to come. *crossfingers

Kutchinta (Brown Rice Cake)

It's such a long time since my last food post, i was preoccupied with random thingys that i seem to ignore these things i should be doing rather than burying myself being a bitterana. I feel kinda lazy and distressing thoughts still haunt me every now and then. I guess it would stay for a moment but i hope not for so very long.

So, this Kutchinta (Brown Rice Cake) is one of my favorite native delicacies. My first attempt of cooking Kutchinta was way back in high school and it tasted terribly bitter because of too much lye water. Well, i didn't know then that it was lye that made it tasted like that. So after that incident, just recently, I've thought of trying to make again, this time should, at least result into something edible.
There are lots of different ways to make this delicacy but here's my Kutchinta edible version ^_^ Yey!

  1. In a bowl, mix the rice flour, brown sugar and lye water.
  2. Gradually add 3/4 cup of water while mixing.
  3. Strain to removes lumps.
  4. Dissolve annatto seeds in 1 tbsp of water and add it to the mixture. (optional - used for coloring)
  5. Pour into tin cans/llanera (grease with oil so it will be easier to remove it when it's cooked) and steam for 20-30 minutes.
  6. Serve with grated coconut on top.. Share and enjoy!
*Best to use round tin cans/llanera instead of this molder because the ricrac curve didn't shaped that much and it took time for me to remove but then it does taste like a real kutchinta..a success!

TOP 11: Good Books to Read

Hey August, Please be good to me!

I once was looking for good books to read and this is what i had found. Actually i had 300+ e-books but this 11 books are on my top list. But of course, Goosebumps Collection is on the very top of them all. And im quite glad to have the Most Wanted, Horrorland and Nightmare Room series of Goosebumps just recently. I've really been wanting to have those and it came just right in time. Well, those are better than the nightmare of the reality i'm in. Throwing out some hateful bitterness of last month..again

I get drowned too much of hoarding books, unsure when will i get to read them all. I also went to National Bookstore the other day and got really lucky coz they are having that bargain sale - 50 pesos and below books! Isn't it amazing? Been there for hours and hours looking for something that will interest me most. Books never fail to give me that calm feeling and momentarily divert my mind into those sickening thoughts. It made me really sick..literally.

Anyway, so these books are on my top 11 reading list for August..actually if i get to read them all this month. Peek now! Books are randomly arranged.
